Udruga vinogradara i vinara “Bilikum”

Udruga svake godine organizira niz programa vezanih uz vinogradarstvo i vinarstvo, npr. Vincekovo i Martinje, te lokalne i županijske izložbe vina.

Žitelji se većinom  tradicijski bave vinogradarstvo i vinarstvom , a manje komercijalnom proizvodnjom, sa ciljem ostvarivanja prihoda. Kalničko vinogorje pripada Kontinentalnoj vinogradarskoj regiji u Hrvatskoj.

This area to make efforts to revitalize the grape-wine industry before joining the EU with good recognition and the support granted to new populations of grape and transformation of the system of small vineyards similar to Hungarian ones. The Križevci-based “Bilikum” Association of Wine-growers and Viticulturists is one of the nine associations operating in the country Koprivnica-Križevci.

The association was established in 1998 with the aim of facilitating the professional development of the wine-growing viticulture in Križevci and its area. The association organizes several wine-growers’ viticulturists’ events e.g. the Vince and Marton days, local professional exhibitions and wine competitions.
Local inhabitants usually grow grapes for the their own needs and to preserve traditions but not because of trade. The Kalnik wine growing area belongs to the Croatian continental wine region. The soil qualities of the area are excellent. The wonderful mountain slopes of Kalnik seem to be created by God only to produce wine. The soil around Kalnik is calcareous. The climate is mild, continental and especially suitable for wine-growing.

The Hungarian king Bela IV granted the title Kalnik Nobles to the inhabitants of the area. They grew several indigenous local grape genera such as Klešćec. Today, according to international trading needs the leading brands are rizling rajnski, kraljevina, sivi i bijeli pinot, chardonnay, but the most important is the graševina. From among the red types significant ones are of frankovka, pinot crni, portugizac. The wine cellars on hills where the vineyards are have always been the scenes of social and community life. The vineyards-keepers, viticulturists use their cellars for making friends, relaxation and for tasting excellent nectars.

Traditional wine cellars are made of thick oak footbridges with thatch roof. There are 54 wine cellars preserved in this state in Kalnik, near village Hižanovec, at Obrež. They have been protected throughout the course of generations, now they are the monuments of folk architecture.

The wine-friendly regulations are famous and widespread among viticulturists and people who like wine i.e. the Krževački Statutums. They have been making merry, celebrating certain family and amicable celebrations as well as official ones according to these rules around Križevci. It is known that those who keep these rules can drink a lot and stay sober at the same time, so they drink “sagacious but not beyond measure”.

We wish you good health to this!
